In October of 2004, PAC introduced a new 3D Laser Scanning Service.
The main reason for the introduction of the scanning service was the need to gather field data quickly and accurately.
Building projects from old "as-built" drawings and manual measurements is an extremely slow and labor intensive process. Even with all that work, it is still not possible to tell how closely the model represents the real world.
The scanner enables the user to quickly by-pass the old methods, and provides accurate real-world information. The scan captures the size, shape, and location of all scanned objects, from large vessels, down to the smallest conduit. With this information, the user can be 100% certain that designs will fit and work.
PAC is pleased with the performance of the scanner. "Already, it has saved us and our clients, a great deal of time and energy."
3D scanning was first introduced to land surveying.
